The Split Reeds are a reed quintet made up of current students of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in Birmingham, UK. The group formed in January 2024 and since then have been inducted into the International Reed Quintet Network and invited to perform at the Calefax International Reed Festival in November of 2025 alongside 40 other reed quintets. The group formed from a mutual interest in new, exciting chamber music and unusual ensembles and in their time together they have enjoyed tackling established and new repertoire as well as working with contemporary composers to add new music to this unique lineup of woodwind instruments. The Split Reeds Quintet specialise in a wide range of repertoire spanning classical, folk, and contemporary works, with a special love for Romantic and 20th-century pieces.
